Writing Letters to Your Legislators

Your State Representative and State Senator need to hear from you to know that you support the Healthy Choices for Healthy Children legislation. Follow these guidelines for effective communication with legislators:

  • Letters should be in your own words. Our fact sheet will help you better understand the legislation, but please describe your support for Healthy Choices for Healthy Children legislation in your own way and explain your personal connection to the issue.
  • Limit your letters to no more than 300 words and stay on point. Do not raise other local or statewide issues you are concerned about in this letter – stick to your message about the Healthy Choices for Healthy Children legislation.
  • Sign your letters and include your address and/or phone number. Your legislator may want to address your concerns, so be sure to let him/her know how to reach you.
  • Send your letter quickly.
    • Visit the State of Ohio General Assembly Web site at http://www.legislature.state.oh.us/index.cfm to obtain contact information for your legislators. Search for your legislator in the House, Senate or both, by entering in your ZIP code, your legislator’s name or your legislative district number.
